Lal Bahadur Shastri is a highly decorated statesman of India. At a time, he was the home minister of the Indian state Uttar Pradesh. During that time, one of his old friends came to him for a visit. After they met and had the greetings done, his friend said- “Just because my son is a half inch shorter than required, he could not pass in the Inspector’s exam. So in this matter, if you could recommend him to authorities, he would be able to become an Inspector.”
Listening to his friend’s talk Shastri calmly replied- “If really your son’s height is short, then he won’t be able to get that position at any cost. It would be worthless for me to recommend him. The ones who have shorter height, can never get that post.”
Hearing Shastri’s reply, the friend angrily said- “Your height is far below than required and you are still the home minister of the full state. But my son is only half an inch short. And just because of that he can’t become an Inspector? Isn’t this unjust?”
Noting his friend’s resentful expression, Shastri smiled a bit and said- “You are right that I am dwarf and still can be a minister. But the bitter truth is that, if I wish to become an Inspector someday, I can’t. And similarly, your son cannot be an inspector with that height, but he can always become a minister like me sooner or later in his life. My wishes are with him.”
Shastri’s logical answer made the friend speechless.
