Maxim Gorky’s (March 28, 1868 – June 18, 1936) father was a very arrogant person. Even during home conversations, he used to beat Gorky inhumanely. Gorky wanted to study but his father always pushed him ahead for work. He did so with his motive of not spending any money in education.

Gorky until a time tolerated his father’s oppressions. But his desire to study increased day by day. Also he always had fear of getting beaten. In this scenario, Child Gorky thought about an idea. He started a job in a junkyard shop. Thousands of books came into the shop, and during his leisure he carried a few of them and studied. By this, he didn’t had to spend his father’s money and in return was also earning a little. But Gorky was not able to understand the things he read in the books.

The one who has strong willpower, cannot remain chained forever. Gorky started to ask the things he could not understand himself, to the customers who came in the shop. Gradually advancing, letter-by-letter and word-by-word he gathered knowledge to decipher and understand the meaning of the writings. During his learning process, he also became able to write. He then wrote and sent his ideas to a newspaper to publish. When the editor of the newspaper congratulated him for that, with new enthusiasm he concentrated in his writing work.

Do you know what was the outcome? The child who worked in the Junkyard shop later wrote a novel “The Mother(1906)”, which is one of the best books ever written in the world.
